Adobe Acrobat Could Stand to Shed a Few Pounds
When you are the standard, it is common to become comfortable, the popularity of your product trumping the necessity to introduce changes that are more than just negligible. However, popularity is frequently the result of the familiarity of your product taking priority over its reliability. In every industry, customers exhibit their tendency to stay with the standard out of habit, ignoring blatant flaws that become allowable in the face of the unknown. One such example is Acrobat Reader, the de facto software used to read .PDF files. PDF ( Portable Document Format ) is the file format made by Adobe Systems for the exchange of documents. Independent of the common variables that are attendant to the compatibility of a file format ( software, hardware, and operating system ), PDF files are self-contained documents of a two-dimensional nature. Until just recently, Acrobat Reader - also created by Adobe Systems - was the the only application that one could use to view a PDF file. Slightly over a year ago, Adobe released the format as an open format, giving the opportunity to read the file with alternative solutions.
Acrobat Reader, like all favored applications that have the already mentioned complacency, has seen its evolution stunted by a scarcity of attention given to performance. Though primarily used for just viewing files, its bloat is obvious, the application consuming roughly 30MB of space. While Acrobat Reader has features that still haven't been adopted by competing software, there are a number of possible choices that offer its core functionality without the surplus baggage.
One option is Evince. Evince is notable for its simplicity, its name accompanied by a tagline that reads, "Simply a document viewer." That is precisely what Evince is, its modest interface underscored by the speed that you'd naturally associate with what is nothing more than a document viewer. A neat addition to Evince is its "Presentation Mode," which handles a PDF as though it is a slideshow. In this mode, each page is treated as a slide. Originally written for use with Linux, there's a Windows version that offers the same features.
Another great alternative is SumatraPDF. For those that simply need to view and print PDF files, SumatraPDF does so without any of the lag one notices when using Acrobat Reader. While plain in appearance, not unlike Evince, its functionality is easy to glean from the simply navigable interface. With just a few buttons, you can take advantage of this tool for the functions that are most utilized by those viewing a PDF : open, page-jump, search. Though its functionality is restricted to just the core jobs we associate with Acrobat Reader, it moves at an impressive speed, with a minimalistic design that spares you the needless trimmings.
Lastly, there's Foxit Reader, an alternative that offers equivalent features without the excesses of Acrobat Reader. Free and available for Windows, Foxit Reader is regarded by many to be the most gratifying choice for those who have sought a usable substitute for Acrobat Reader. One reason for its popularity is the impressive feature set : e-mail the PDF while viewing it, highlight part of the screen and save it as an image, and convert the PDF to text. Those features come with the free version, without any mention of what's included should you get the Foxit Reader Pro Pack. The main feature of the Pro Pack is the ability to edit your PDF files.
In the case of Acrobat Reader, this is but one of the many examples where you'll find that the most popular software isn't always the most practical answer. Acrobat Reader is definitely no slouch, coming from the company that invented the PDF standard, but there's no way to deny that it can stand to lose much of the weight that slows the current version down. Till that's done, the choices discussed above should be more than sufficient to fulfill your needs where viewing PDF files are concerned.
Software like Adobe Acrobat Reader are but one of many areas of concern when thinking about your PC's performance. There are many more applications and settings that can be optimized. If you ever feel overwhelmed by all of this contact a professional computer repair technician. If you've got a slow computer Geek Choice can help you properly configure it for the best possible performance. You can pick up the telephone at any time and call us at 1-800-GEEK HELP (433-5435).

A Scientific Renaissance: Paper Notebooks to Laptop Notebooks
When we hear the word `notebook` the first thought that strikes our grey matter is a writing device in the form of a book usually made of paper. We generally imagine it in various forms like notepad, writing pad, or simply a scrapbook. Its use is generally determined by its size - not forgetting the general saying `the smaller, the better`.The concept (of notebooks) which started as a collection of leaves somewhere in ancient Rome has today taken the shape of a latest electronic device called the `laptop`. Laptops were named `notebooks` probably because of their small size inspite of the fact that originally they did not have any note-taking ability.
Initially laptops had integrated screen and keyboard and were more like `suitcase computers` but with advancements in technology they kept getting smaller in size with enhanced features. Laptops were referred to as notebooks when they had condensed in size comparable almost to a paper notebook. Moving a step further we got something called PDA`s (Personal Digital Assistants) which were a little larger than portfolio notebooks and were named `notebook` to differentiate them from general laptops. In common man`s words these were called `Palm tops`.
The quest for comfort did not end with the PDA`s. Moving a step further we got a much better and advanced version of PDA s called the `Tablet PC`s`. Tablet PC`s are laptops or rather notebooks that have a special pen and software with which we can interact with the screen directly. So it was a kind where we can actually write on with a pen - a real master piece in the world of science! Here the screen itself is used as the Input-Output device rather than the Mouse or the Keyboard. Moreover these PDA`s and Palmtops use flash memory and they do not use the same OS or hardware as used by the typical laptop and notebooks.
Today notebook refers to laptops that can have their windows reversed to make it into a notebook and can be written on like a tablet. It can be used for making handwritten notes in class or to make sketches and drawings that can later be used as notes.
What makes the notebook indispensable is its portability, efficiency coming next to it. Today we are not under the constraints of working for fixed hours in office; our work can come home with us, thus, providing us with a more comfortable and relaxed environment. Other than that the notebook occupies the least possible space on the desk and saves us from the tangles of wires. To top it all the sleek, sensuous look of the portable notebooks makes it the most desirable asset today.
As the saying goes, if you want to gain something you should be ready to lose some too. Here the loosing factor comes in the face of money. This piece of sophisticated technology is twice as expensive as its desktop counterpart or sometimes even more than that. But since all good things come in small packages, the notebook as well should be accepted with its exorbitant price realizing the fact that it is paving the way for a simpler and efficient future.
Despite the notebooks being smaller and elegant, it is a bitter fact that it can never completely take over the desktop. The reason being the deficiency of space to fit in all the components and the lack of escape routes for heat. Moreover upgrading the hardware in a notebook becomes an overpriced task and can be done much easily and reasonably in a desktop.
Inspite of these various shortcomings the fact remains that the era of literature and arts has been succeeded by the scientific era with computer being at the centre of this renaissance.

RAM Upgrade Computer to Improve Your Computer Skills

Thats was one of them due to lack of capacity ram in your computer. This will make your computer use was not optimal, because the computer work is influenced by various things such as processor, ram, hard drive, VGA, and others.
For it is better to upgrade ram on our computers in order to become larger so that the computer skills would be better. Yes, although still limited to the overalls of the hardware used in computers. Recent ram prices went down. Just call brands like famous ram like Corsair, Transcend, VGEN, Visipro, and Patriot these days more affordable.
If your computer motherboard only supports ram to DDR 1 or just SDRAM, even better not to have to buy more RAM for the upgrade. Better to buy a new motherboard that supports DDR 2 RAM. Why? Because the DDR 2 and SDRAM is now expensive. This is because the material for the manufacture of DDR 1 and SDRAM is now rare and rarely sold on the market. After buying a new motherboard, and then we buy ram it takes for your computer work better.
